I’d like to get this canvas finished before work goes back so I need to get a move on! I’m hoping I can at least get this dress finished tonight. Back to it…

PROGRESS
These last few days have been such a treasure – being able to prioritise my art over working, writing teaching plans, cleaning, training, and all the other things I always seem to think are infinitely more important. But I’ve just realised that actively pursuing my own arts practice is way more important than I’ve been giving it credit for. I honestly believe that, in order to be a good art teacher, you need to be an artist first and foremost. If you do not have that active passion inside of you in the first place, how can you share it and pass it on to others? I also think it’s important to always learn. Take any opportunity to learn a new skill or keep your mind active: learn to embroider, read independent newspapers, learn about permaculture, go running; whatever it takes to be inspired and find wonder in the things around you.
So, anyway, here’s a little more progress of my first foray into oils. Sorry for the terrible quality of the images.
Work in progress.
A very last-minute dash to get this board finished for Pipe Up 2010!
Still not sure how loose or refined to make it… hmmmm…. decisions.
PipeUp 2010
I came home the other night to find that the cat had eaten my homework (or my artwork, to be more precise). Thankfully, I had already transferred the image to my deck, ready to paint up for PipeUp 2010 – the last ever Paperhorse Studios exhibition. Come along and celebrate the end of an era with a fine collection of decks by a plethora of Australian and international artists.
Drypoint & photographs
As part of my marvellous plan to get creative again this year, I’ve decided to learn a little printmaking under the watchful eye of Simone Tippett at Union Street Studios, Stepney. I had my first introduction to drypoint today and am excited to admit that I feel naturally drawn to it. I look forward to a new, fruitful relationship with the medium. I’ll edit in a few photos from today’s workshop later on (hopefully) but for now an image of the first print is up on my 365 days blog.
Sneak peek…
Here is a kind of abstract taste of what I’m putting together for the ST5K / Format Festival exhibition, running as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival 09.
