As part of my marvellous plan to get creative again this year, I’ve decided to learn a little printmaking under the watchful eye of Simone Tippett at Union Street Studios, Stepney. I had my first introduction to drypoint today and am excited to admit that I feel naturally drawn to it. I look forward to a new, fruitful relationship with the medium. I’ll edit in a few photos from today’s workshop later on (hopefully) but for now an image of the first print is up on my 365 days blog.
I’ve always admired people that have drive. People that have a commitment to their passion. People like my husband, Seb. Me? I’ve always been a little … apathetic … toward creativity, I suppose you could say. I find it hard to start, so I don’t. But my previous post about doing something creative or sustainable everyday this year reminded me that there are thousands of people doing all sorts of 365 days-style projects – taking one photograph / portrait / etc. everyday for a year. Seb has pledged to do it this year (in music) so, you know what, I’m going to give it a shot.
The project begins! Visit Star + Bluebird // 2010 here.
And here’s the set on Flickr.
Well, I’ve decided that 2010 will be a year of renewed creativity and strengthened sustainability. My aim is to work on one or the other a little each day. If I can say that I’ve done something – even if it’s just something small – every day, I think life will feel a lot more balanced. I’d like to think I could achieve something, little by little, and have something satisfying to look back on at the end of 2010.
I’ve started this morning (another day off sick) with a quick walk through the garden. I’ve trussed up the cherry tomatoes some more as they keep growing higher and stronger. Unfortunately some snails have got to them so I’ve had to spread some pellets (once our fantastic garden is established I’m planning to never need synthetic fertilisers or repellents again… but that’s another story).

Even the passionfruit is spreading out in tight, green curls.

The grapes have nearly ripened. I think they’re a wine variety though… no matter, we’ll just have to learn to make wine!

I’ve also discovered that we have redbacks in our shed. I don’t want to kill them, but it will certainly make getting to gardening tools a little more precarious.

I’ve been learning a lot from Jackie French – she is my new hero. I’m looking forward to following her many ideas for sustainable living over the coming months. Here’s to new blooms, productivity, and lots of bright colour in 2010.
With love,
Lauren

It’s been a while, and that’s a shame. But it’s a new year, a new place, a new time and a new creative head space. Here’s to new starts.
